Haverford College, Haverford, PA

The construction and renovation that created the Koshland Integrated Natural Sciences Center (link) allowed seven departments to consolidate in one complex. It also meant that other departments were displaced. As a result, additional renovation was required.

Stokes Hall, which was designed in 1961 as the College's science center, was chosen for updating. The concrete frame Modernist style building served primarily as lab space and needed to become appropriate for the Administrative and Academic Computing Centers, the Language Learning Center, the business office, and the Department of Economics.

Ayers/Saint/Gross designed the project, which included changes to the lobby, corridors, restrooms, and the 200+ seat lecture hall. The existing mechanical, electrical, and structural systems also required extensive retrofitting to comply with prevailing construction industry practices and code requirements.
