Phase I and Phase II
University of Virginia, Charlottesville

In the mid-1990s, the Darden School vacated its outdated buildings and moved to an 18-acre parcel on the UVA North Grounds. With founder Thomas Jefferson's philosophy of the “academic village” in mind, Phase I included:

  • 120-seat auditorium
  • Ten 60-seat classrooms
  • Three 40-seat classrooms
  • 46 group study rooms
  • 80 faculty offices
  • Six conference rooms
  • Audiovisual production studio
  • Three-story library
  • Expansion of the existing Sponsors Hall Executive Conference Center

Phase II buildings provide large group gathering spaces that bring opportunities for MBA class and community interaction, conferences, major speakers, and special events. Additional classrooms, offices, and guest accommodations allow growth MBA and Executive Education programs to expand. The major components are:

  • The Darden Center, with a 450-seat auditorium, 400-seat dining room, and staff offices
  • The two-story Classroom Pavilions Addition with larger teaching space and study areas. The garden serves as a gathering space as well.
  • The Faculty Pavilions Addition that increases teaching and research initiatives
  • Expanded West Residences (Sponsors Hall) for more capacity in Executive Education guest rooms, a bookstore, and study rooms that also function as interview spaces
  • Renovations to Sponsors Hall Dining Center
  • 500-space parking garage
