University of Baltimore
After a study of its landlocked downtown campus, UB decided to build a six-story facility for the Merrick School of Business on the corner of one of the city's busiest intersections and within view of the nearby railroad station. Half of the University's students attend the business school, and the new building consolidates rapidly growing programs formerly in three campus locations.
The facility is organized around a four-story central atrium providing natural light to most of the indoor spaces, including faculty offices. Other aspects of the program are 26 classrooms, eight seminar rooms, a two-story auditorium, and computer labs. The auditorium includes a booth with direct eye contact with the podium and lectern to allow simultaneous translation of presentations into three languages.
Ayers/Saint/Gross provided overall project management, coordination with the state's procurement agency, interface with community and city review groups, construction documents and specifications, construction administration, and post-construction evaluation.
Ayers/Saint/Gross was a joint venture partner with the Hillier Group.
