Johns Hopkins University, Maryland
After conducting a feasibility study for expansion of facilities at Hopkins' G.W.C. Whiting School of Engineering, Ayers/Saint/Gross developed a detailed project program that compared existing and future needs and then worked with the University to form a phased renovation plan.
The goal was to improve the quality of the two existing buildings, one from 1915 and the other from 1929, with a combined total of more than 150,000 gsf of classroom, lecture hall, office, and laboratory space. The school required swing space during renovations and estimated a need for 50,000 gsf of additional room over five years. The resulting renovation provides state-of-the-art, high tech space for engineering teaching and research.
Completion: 1998
Size: 66,000 gsf
