Haverford College, Haverford, PA

When Haverford College wanted to increase research and teaching collaboration among the natural science departments, it commissioned ASG to provide all architectural, engineering, and interior design services. The objective was to consolidate chemistry, physics, astronomy, computer science, math, biology, psychology, and two libraries in and around the facility occupied by four departments since 1963.

The program includes:

  • Teaching and research labs
  • Classrooms
  • Seminar spaces
  • Conference rooms
  • Lab support spaces
  • Faculty offices
  • Interactive lounges
  • Administrative and support staff offices.

To align the new center with the orientation of adjacent structures, ASG and the campus planning committee decided on a "hinge" building between the campus's upper and lower sections, with a circular atrium as the focal point. It fulfills the College's commitment to an energy-efficient facility while adhering to OSHA requirements for science buildings.

Through renovation and construction, the College has an efficient new intellectual center that also serves as a significant landmark on its campus.
