The goal of the Update is to capture and consolidate the University's 10-year campus growth and development needs into a plan that supports the mission, vision, and ambitions of the academic and health care community. It began with a revisit of the ASG’s 1998 Campus Plan, which prioritized the 10-year needs of departments and programs within the University, environmental analysis of campus precincts, and a study of global issues, such as traffic and parking, utility systems, accessibility, and the campus aesthetic.

The prior plan established seven guiding principles that informed campus development for succeeding years. Six years and 55 major projects later, the campus has been transformed into a beautiful walking environment and the sense of an Emory architectural identity has been restored. Applications have increased and environmental stewardship has been established as a continuing priority.

The University, in looking to the future, has a three-part plan of action. The Campus Plan Update, the Clifton Corridor sub area Transportation Study 2004, and the University Strategic Plan will together provide the framework for future achievements of excellence.
