ASG was hired to develop a master plan based on new strategic initiatives articulated by President John Fry. They include:

  • Enhance the quality and intensity of the liberal arts experience
  • Strengthen the campus community
  • Deepen and enrich the College's ties to Lancaster
  • Enhance national recognition and appreciation for the College's talents and contributions
  • Grow financial and physical resources to fulfill the College's mission and achieve its aspirations
  • Challenge assumptions and think big.

Information collected at workshops and through research led to final planning concepts. One outcome is creation of an elegant crescent entryway with a residential college, admissions office, and student services. Another is conversion of existing on-campus housing to the residential college model.

In addition, 80,000 gsf of new commercial and retail space will create a college town along the northern boulevard to enliven College/city social interaction. The plan includes two stories of apartments above the retail space and a new 100,000 gsf intercollegiate athletic facility.

Completion: 2003
Size: 130 acres
