In addition to pedestrian and vehicular circulation and the definition of distinct campus precincts, this master plan update emphasizes the 75-acre adjacent property known as the East Study Area. When the planning process began, this section was occupied by declining commercial, residential, and light industrial uses.
Planning solutions evolved with input from Norfolk's Department of Planning, the Redevelopment and Housing Authority, as well as state and local planning agencies.
Recommendations embraced research and corporate incubator spaces, a new street lined with a series of village squares (completed), an new arena (completed), and extending the main campus building and open space patterns.

Since completion of the plan, ASG designed the TelTechNet distance learning building on campus and was asked to update the overall campus plan.
