Madison, WS

Completion: 2005
Size: 933 acres
230 buildings

The University of Wisconsin-Madison does not anticipate enrollment growth above the current 40,000 students, but ASG recently was hired to facilitate a planning process for development and physical improvements over the next 15 years.

The firm is updating the existing plan, which was completed in 1996. More than 80 percent of recommendations have been implemented or are in the design/construction phase. The new effort will examine existing and proposed buildings, outdoor spaces, transportation, and utilities to establish a renewed campus that is more functional and balances the needs of teachers and students, drivers and pedestrians, development and inviting outdoor spaces.

Planners also will determine if there should be a consistent look to the architecture in different areas of campus. And since the scope of the project is so broad, elements will be implemented over several years.
