The Arizona State University Master Plan examines a new vision expressed by President Michael Crow for the four campuses in the growing Phoenix metropolitan area. Each campus has a specific theme and purpose that develop centers of culture and education. ASU at the West, Downtown Phoenix, and Polytechnic campuses will experience substantial enrollment and program growth to address growth in the Valley and needs across the state. The Tempe Campus will maintain its approximate enrollment but with a strong research emphasis. Each of the campuses is designed to be embedded in its community with mixed use development resulting in a vibrant 24/7 environment. Downtown Phoenix and the Tempe campuses will take advantage of new mass transit initiatives currently in development. The desert landscape and climate will be integral in the design of the campuses' built and natural systems.

ASG also developed a master plan for the Arizona Biomedical Campus (ABC) in downtown Phoenix. The ABC is a consortium of the three state institutions -- Arizona State University; Northern Arizona University; and University of Arizona -- and builds on a previous study for the City of Phoenix that identified the location for the 170,000 gsf genomics T/Gen and IGC Headquarter Facility Building.

The site is in the historic Copper Square district, on the former campus of the Phoenix Union High School. The schemes propose the adaptive re-use of existing historic buildings for offices, classrooms, conference space and telecommunication broadcasts.

The study represents a final site build-out for the ABC to comprise approximately 60,000 gross square feet, plus three new buildings totaling approximately 310,000 gross square feet.

The historic buildings add character and permit incremental occupation of the site. The campus would accommodate administration, teaching, research and community outreach programs.
