Pittsburgh, PA
As the University began its second century, all phases of the 1987 campus master plan had been built out, including a new stadium, new residence halls, the University Center, and the Purnell Center for the Arts. Yet compelling needs remained, and Ayers/Saint/Gross was commissioned to develop stewardship strategies for the core campus as well as:
- A sound framework for build-out over the next 20 years and more
- Enhanced open space
- Sites for new academic, research, and residential buildings
- Well-defined entrances
- Improved parking and transportation systems.
Transforming a major thoroughfare with high-speed traffic into a safer roadway with wider sidewalks was a significant challenge. However, the overall plan meets the objectives of improving campus quality to attract and retain top students, faculty members, and staff.
