Archdiocese of Baltimore
Hunt Valley, MD
This church’s 23-acre site has an expansive view of the surrounding farmland, so the ASG design team interacted extensively with concerned neighbors and zoning officials who wanted to maintain the rural character. In response, ASG design team retained the existing farmhouse for church offices, placed the chapel where the barn once stood, and planned the 650-seat sanctuary to respect the site’s scale and character.
The church also has a 100-seat chapel, narthex, choir room, sacristy, vesting sacristy, gathering space with kitchen, and exterior terrace. The sanctuary has a baptismal font and pool and an organ. The lower level houses a multi-purpose room, library, bookstore, meeting rooms, classrooms, and nursery.
The exterior massing and materials were designed in response to the context of nearby barns and other buildings. The parking area follows the site’s sloping contours to minimize visual impact.
