Tremont Plaza Hotel
Baltimore, MD
A 37-story tower was transformed from a drab apartment building into an all-suite, business-class hotel and office building. On the exterior, a neo-classical facade of limestone and granite has replaced the original glass curtain wall. A crescent-shaped indentation in the facade at the main level allows ease of movement along an otherwise narrow sidewalk and, at the same time, entices visitors inside.
A rich and elegant lobby of marble, brass and mahogany is spatially connected through a double height entry to meeting rooms on the mezzanine above.
The project received a 1987 Baltimore Chapter AIA Design for Excellence Award Honorable Mention.
In 2000, Ayers/ Saint/Gross and Mueller Associates were engaged to develop plans for a Phase II Modernization to include new interiors and furnishings for 185 suites as well as window replacement of all exterior windows (800 units).
