Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, PA
Completion: 2006
Size: 127,000 gsf
Cost: $17.5 million
Parrish Hall, completed in 1889, remains an icon and symbolic gateway between the residential and academic precincts of Swarthmore College. Its renovation will adapt to the College’s changing needs rather than re-gilding the past.
The overall goals are to continue to house students, update mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and telecom/data systems, create interior spaces consistent with its historic architecture, provide space for current and future administrative needs, maintain its mixed-use nature, and ensure ADA and life safety compliance.
The proposed program includes 90 student beds and offices of the president, provost, admissions, development, student activities, registrar, bursar, financial aid, dean’s office, post office, and publications. The renovation is taking place in three phases to allow continued occupancy.
