University of Kentucky, Lexington

This study for UK investigated the feasibility of expanding or redeveloping existing campus housing in line with the goals of the Physical Development Plan and growth trends. It was prompted by increased enrollment and the fact that the inventory had not changed in two decades.

After on-campus workshops, the study accomplished the following:

  • Analyzed the general campus
  • Assessed existing facilities
  • Developed conceptual plans and text outlining renovation strategies
  • Proposed new housing sites based on the number of beds lost to renovation, including general location, configuration, and housing types to remain on campus
  • Investigated parking and pedestrian links
  • Explored general utilities issues.
