ASG prepared a planning study for Wesleyan’s proposed undergraduate residence halls to accommodate 160 beds for freshmen and 100 for upper classmen.
Freshmen will have double rooms with two- to four gang bathrooms serving each floor. Upper classmen will have five-person apartments with kitchen and living areas. The project will include two-bedroom apartments for area coordinators and resident advisor rooms for every 30
freshmen and 40-50 upper classmen. Support areas in each building include lobby reception, lounge, laundry room, staff offices, bicycle storage, and vending.
The site is particularly challenging, with a 40-foot grade change across its width, most of which is gathered in a 25-foot retaining wall. Since ASG identified this area as a passageway from the core campus to an outlying area, it must be accessible. The residence halls will facilitate this movement. Plantings will emphasize the central passage, provide shade, and anchor the remaining slopes.
Completion: 2004-05
Freshmen: 83,000 gsf/160 beds
Upper classmen: 37,400 gsf/100 beds
