Baltimore, MD
This facility is in one of the most important districts in downtown Baltimore and immediately adjacent to the Basilica of the Assumption, the first major religious in the nation after the adoption of the Constitution. This sensitive location required historical research, design review, and public meetings to arrive at a design satisfying the site's unique requirements.
The project included renovation of two 19th Century row houses, new commercial office space, and a new home for Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, sponsored by the Associated Catholic Charities.
To prevent damage to the Basilica during or after construction, extensive documentation was made of existing conditions, and drilled caissons were used instead of less expensive driven piles to minimize vibration.
The assignment was completed on time and on budget under a general contract with multiple bid packages.
