University of Notre Dame
Notre Dame, IN

The University of Notre Dame is on more than 1,000 acres two miles north of the city of South Bend. Immediately to the south of campus are transitional neighborhoods that UND is interested in securing and supporting

The University controlled parcels of land along Notre Dame Avenue, which forms the historic south entrance to the campus. ASG’s team analyzed and produced conceptual layouts for a number of concerns on the southern edge, such as linking the campus and community; creating a safe and walkable mixed-use environment; and providing affordable housing options.

The planning team developed architectural guidelines for the design, development, and residential character of new homes on the street leading to the dome. The suggestions also address the original vision for a grand, processional approach to the University.

Suggestions for the appearance of each house include:

  • Placement on the lot
  • Size and massing
  • Selections of architectural elements, details, and patterns
  • Color options
  • Landscape choices.
