Ayers/Saint/Gross, in association with HNTB Corporation, a national sports facility group, provided complete design services for the total renovation and rejuvenation of the former Baltimore Civic Center. The facility required extensive reworking to adequately serve the diverse needs of hockey, basketball, soccer, concerts, circuses, tractor pulls and theater.
The initial project involved the total rejuvenation of the arena's exterior, as well as total renovation of the interior lobby areas. In conjunction with the renovation, Ayers/Saint/Gross reconfigured the permanent and temporary seating, including bleacher sections.
The HVAC system also was modified and updated. The project was completed in phases over a 24-month period without interrupting any of the event days.
Ayers/Saint/Gross subsequently was retained for 16 additional work orders and continues to provide, as needed, design services for continuing renovations.
