Charleston, S.C.

Charleston has much more going for it than history, including a strong business center. We were asked to study the potential of a 66-acre site between the Medical University of South Carolina, the Citadel, and the Ashley River in the northwestern edge of the peninsula.

The goal was to look for development opportunities and ways to connect the parcel with the city grid. The Medical University also was interested in the possibilities for a research facility within the framework of a thriving neighborhood.

ASG's proposed mix of uses ranges from retail shops at street level to five-story research buildings within walking distance of the University; a variety of architectural types for the 500 of residential units; and civic buildings. Plus, amenities like the city's park and gym, baseball park, and the river will contribute to the new sense of vibrancy.
