Container ships bringing raw sugar from around the world to the Domino
Sugar processing plant next door and sailboats heading for the marina at
the Inner Harbor are part of the changing landscape at the Baltimore office.
It is in a renovated warehouse that was part of the Proctor & Gamble
soap factory. Farther down Fort Avenue is Ft. McHenry, second only to Ellis
Island in the number of immigrants processed at the turn of the last century
and inspiration for "The Star Spangled Banner". Staff members frequently
commute by water taxi from neighborhoods like Fells Point and Canton. Ayers/Saint/Gross
was founded in Baltimore in 1915 as a general architecture practice and
shifted its focus to higher education and cultural institutions two decades
ago.
