The original Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus plan was followed rigorously until the mid-1970s, when the campus began to sprawl. Asphalt lots and roads marred the campus, and its physical quality was in decline. The new campus plan reroutes roads and removes intrusive parking lots. It adds green space, standards for paving and streetscape, and new building sites. Landscaped quadrangles and numerous buildings have been built. Hopkins confirms that these improvements have lead to a 26% increase in admissions.
