In 2005, Ayers Saint Gross developed the vision for a true living and learning campus in which to advance the university’s academic mission. Five years later, our firm was asked to create another master plan for the Flagstaff campus to accommodate increasing enrollment from 16,000 to 25,000 students. Our goal was to identify strategies to accommodate the university’s expectations for growth with effective and responsible use of resources. We needed to integrate all that had been accomplished since the previous plan with fresh thinking about campus development looking forward to 2020 and beyond. The year-long planning process was guided by a steering committee of representative from the student association, major university departments, colleges and committees, and city of Flagstaff.
