H. F. du Pont said, “The story of Winterthur tells the greatest story of our time – the story of the American people.” However, the current buildings and grounds are not organized in the best way to tell this remarkable story. The new master plan responds by creating a long-term roadmap – allowing the property to develop through a series of incremental steps. The plan seeks to inspire and enlighten its visitors while preserving and enhancing its buildings and landscapes, its collections and programs, and its history as a great American country estate. The plan suggests sites for a range of facilities, roads and infrastructure, all planned in a way to enhance the beauty and history of this memorable place.
