New Hall was the first major building designed along guidelines established by the Campus Amenities Master Plan completed by Ayers/Saint/Gross. The goal of these guidelines was to create a more coherent and identifiable overall campus. Ayers/Saint/Gross provided complete architectural and engineering services for the 119-unit facility that includes parking.

The site plan allows a front door to an important street that clearly identifies the building as part of the campus realm. The tripartite façade includes a cast stone base, brick skin, and cast stone cornice, window heads, and sills. The front walk and entryway use the new campus palette of design materials and elements to further signify campus affiliation.

Inside, layouts provide a variety of options. Finishes and furnishings are comparable with private housing, and social areas are available for group study and recreation. The building design features sustainable energy and materials approaches resulting in recognition from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
